Link swapping can be very effective if done correctly.
Choose relevant sites & perhaps try some triangulation.

Who knows what caused it it happened to me once or twice before.

It just occurred to me that perhaps by link swapping you meant trading them?

I heard that it may no longer be such a good idea. But I could be wrong.
