Rule #2: Solve Someone’s Problems

April 1st, 2010

This rule follows from the first. You have a real business with real customers. Whatever you might think about the importance or efficacy of salesletters, text ads, banner advertisements, and video content, there is one additional thing you should always keep in mind: selling a product that has no purpose is much, much harder than selling something that solves a problem that many people have.

Of course, when you’re creating a product, this isn’t always the easiest question to ask and to answer, but it’s an important one to keep in mind. Many Internet marketers simply don’t ask it. They ignore what customers might want; and instead spend time figuring out how best to trick them into buying.

Please follow my advice and do not follow in their footsteps. It will lead you down a path of failure and disappointment from which you may never emerge as a successful, skilled Internet marketer.

Instead, start off by locating your customers. Again, look for them on forums, on blogs, and wherever else they might be. Find out what problems they have; and create a product that SOLVES those problems.

Whatever you do through your salesletters, text ads, banner advertisements, and social media marketing efforts will be greatly amplified by the quality of your product. You won’t start off with the great disadvantage of needing to sell a bad product that no one needs. Instead, you will genuinely be helping people by telling them about your product.

To Your Success,

Rob Willis

Rule #1: Think in Terms of Real Customers

March 30th, 2010

One universal piece of advice that all Internet marketers should be forced to hear is this: don’t think about your business as being impersonal just because it’s on the Internet.

Your customers are real. They have real wants, real desires, real problems, and real money to spend on your products. So treat them like real people—not product-purchasing units.

This might sound like generic advice, but it is the best starting point for all Internet marketers. So, before you draft your next product idea, start by conjuring up a picture in your head of who your customers might be.

Better yet, find them on blogs, in forums, and other places on the Internet. Locate them and find out who they are, what they want, and why they aren’t satisfied with the current products or services they are using.

Don’t treat them as if they’re not people. Figure out what makes them tick; and use that to make your business appeal to them.

27 Essential Rules of Internet Marketing

March 29th, 2010

Internet marketing is a complicated venture. It is fraught with creative challenges, analytical work, and human interaction. It’s hard to reduce, hard to explain, hard to simplify, and hard to teach correctly.

There are so many moving parts in each Internet marketing campaign that providing people with a one-size-fits-all plan seems deeply misguided. It gives the impression that success in Internet marketing isn’t a dynamic process. It ignores the fact that creating a real, successful business with actual customers isn’t as easy as taking the parts of a shelf out of a box and assembling them according to the instructions.

Being a successful Internet market is very different. It is not only about good plans, good principles, and good approaches, but it is also about flexibility, responsiveness, and dynamism.

And that is exactly what I had in mind when I wrote this. Instead of giving you a “recipe” for success, I’m going to give you a set of rules that are general enough to get you results and to set you on a path, but can do so without straight-jacketing you into a “business template,” where there is no room for your own thought, creative freedom, and responsiveness.

In the following posts over the next several weeks, I will reveal the 27 rules that I believe that all Internet marketers should follow because they will always bring results. Unlike other mini-courses, this one won’t attempt to stuff you into a rigid template. Instead, I will simply tell you what will work without mixing it with stuff that “might work” in certain situations. Some of it will be philosophical; some of it will be concrete. But, at the end of the day, all of it will help you to improve your mindset, your business, your relationships with your customers, and your bottomline.

Be sure to return over the next couple of days where I will reveal Rule #1: Think in Terms of Real Customers.

Latest IM Update

March 25th, 2010

Just thought I would give you an update on what I have been working on since my last post.

To be honest, most of my time has been focused on putting together some great giveaways for the Easter JV Giveaway 2010 event. Doors open for this on Tuesday 30 March 2010.

In putting my Giveaways together, I have setup a couple of new websites. The first of which is WPHumor.

You may notice at the bottom of each of my blog posts, a quick little joke. Some of these are a little wet, Many are funny, but all of them are clean. So to give your readers a little light entertainment, add the WPHumor plugin to your blog, it only costs $7.00 and you can add it to as many blogs as you like. (You can also join the affiliate program and make 100% on every second sale).

I have also been making some improvements to my Easy Product Creation System. This is a physical product, that is shipped out on CD for you, with step by step instructions on how to create your own digital product in just about any niche. It is well worth having a closer look.

A while ago, I purchased a piece of Website Building Software called Rapid Action Profits. I have not used it much as yet, but I am currently using it to create some of my websites. It is great for creating Mini-Sites, and Sales Pages. It also has a built in Affiliate module, so you can easily recruit affiliates from your customers, and not have to worry about sharing your profits with Clickbank.

Rapid Action Profits (RAP) uses Paypal as it’s prefered payment processor, and affiliates are paid immediately upon sale. Although you do have some control of this, by using one of the many add-ons that are available for RAP.

I will write a full review of RAP in the next couple of weeks, highlighting many of its benefits.

One of my latest RAP site is SocialMediaStampede.com which sells an ebook about how to generate traffic from the high traffic Web 2.0 sites.

I am about to embark on a new WordPress Plugin, similar to WP Humor, called WP Success Quotes. This plugin will add a Positive Quote to the end of each of your blog posts. I am hoping to have this site up and running early next week.

Aside from all of that, I am working on building my list (Hopefully the Easter JV Giveaway 2010 event will help me with that), Creating a few more Physical Video products, reviewing and improving some of my existing sites & products, as well as doing a few courses to learn new bits and pieces.

All of this work of course is helping me to learn how to use the various pieces of software better. I am becoming more proficient at Dreamweaver and Photoshop, Microsoft’s Expression Web 2 (Update to Frontpage), Powerpoint and Apples Keynote.

Anyway, I will leave it there for now, but I will be back soon with some more of the many things I am working on.

To Your Success,

Rob Willis

Don’t Spread Yourself Too Thin!

March 16th, 2010

Sometimes I feel like the last bit of butter on a piece of dry toast… Spread just that little bit too thin…

As an Internet Marketer, it is important that we do not get this way. We need to plan our days, and don’t let too many distractions get in our way, else we will soon get discouraged and frustrated by our lack of progress.

The best way I find to overcome this issue is to go back to basics. Simply write a list of things to do, Prioritise them, and then start working on my most important task. See my previous post “Simplify & Prioritise”.

It is also very easy to get overwhelmed if you have got too many projects on the go at once. We often try to get too much done at the same time, that we never end up completing any of them, and if we do, the quality of our work has been compromised.

I once heard a story about Ivy Lee (The father of Modern Public Relations, 1877 – 1934), where he asked to help a company with some Time Management issues.
You see this company was having an issue with completing projects on time with few mistakes.
Ivy Lee sat down with the Company Director, and told him to take out a piece of paper and write his top six most important tasks. He wes then told to prioritise his list, from most important to least important.
Ivy Lee then told the Company Director to work on task number one, and stick with that task until compeleted, once completed he could move onto task two.
Ivy said that if the director could not get his tasks completed more efficiently this way, he would not complete them any other way.
If anything was left on the list at the end of the day, simply transfer these to a new list the following day and add new tasks to bring the list back to 6 items.

The whole process took about 20 minutes. Ivy Lee thanked the Director for his time and left telling the director to use this system for a couple of weeks, and then send him a check for what he thought the idea was worth.
A few weeks later, the director set Ivy Lee a note saying this was the best Time Management tip he had aver received and he had managed to get more done in the ast few weeks than he he managed to get done in months, he had also rolled out the process to the rest of his compamy. The director also included with the note a check for $25,000.

This one Time Management tip also works for me. I have used it to get more done in my day than I ever would any other way.

Admittedly, some tasked cannot be completed, due to external factors, in which case I put the task aside and start working on the next task. When I am able to complete the first task, I make it a priority to work on it again after I finish my current task.

Also, eliminate distrations! When you are working on a particular project and you need to focus, turn off your phone and stop checking your emails. These two things can be two of the biggest time wasters every invented.

Very often we use our phone and email as a way to procrastinate over a particular task. We make excuses, that we are checking to see if we made any sales, of if someone joined our mailing list, etc. Well guess what, if you do make a sale, or if someone has joined your mailing list, they will still be there when you check later during your time set aside for email.

By taking just a few simply steps, it is possible to bring some order back into your life, and at the same time achieve so much more.

To Your Success,

Rob

Magic Banner Bot

March 7th, 2010

Every once in a while you come across a piece of software that is worth writting about.Magic Banner Bot

Such is the case with Magic Banner Bot. A fantastic piece of software that gives you the ability to link to any site on the internet and then have your own banners linking back to your own site or affiliate link.

For example if  you select this link that will take you to Google, you will notice I have a floating banner on the screen with a link to one of my sites on it.

It is possble to have your Banner appear just about anywhere on the screen simply by selecting Left, right, top or botom when configuring your banner.

Do you use blogging, twitter, social networking sites or article marketing to promote your business?

More and more people are discovering the marketing power of these web 2.0 solutions.

But they do have one big drawback: You must build and maintain credibility with your visitors, followers or friends.

This means you cannot just promote your own products and affiliate links all the time. You need to discuss other things in your chosen niche, including discussing interesting websites.

So you end up linking to and promoting other people’s websites – without getting paid anything for doing it.

Until now, this was just the price you paid for using web 2.0 solutions to promote your business.

But now there’s a powerful alternative, in the form of our new Magic Banner Bot.

With this software, you can make money whenever you link to or promote someone else’s website, even if the site has no affiliate program and no commercial content at all.

If you write Articles, or use Social netorks such as Twitter or Facebook, people soon get the impression that you are always trying to sell them something. However with Magic Banner Bot, you can now start adding content and redirect people to someone elses page via your link, which will in turn have your banner on their site. Pretty cool hey! (This is also a sneaky way to promote products in forums.)

For a closer look and some more examples head over to Magic Banner Bot at the Perfect Money Makers to check it out.

Making Mistakes

February 23rd, 2010

As a new Internet Marketer, we quite often get caught up with the results rather than the causes. For example we can often focus more on making money rather than getting traffic to our sites.

The way I see it, is if you focus on getting traffic to your website, you will inevitably, start making sales.

Another mistake that is quite common is filling our Blogs, with so many advertisements and affiliate links rather than quality content. This is something the newbie marketer quite often gets caught up in, in a desperate attempt to make those first couple of dollars. I have also been guilty of this.

We have it all Backwards.

Our Blogs should be supplying quality content. We should be sharing our latest experiences in Internet Marketing. Share with others what is working for us, and what doesn’t work. By doing this we will slowly get a following of readers, and over a period of time, we will start making the occasional sale, as we recommend some of the products that we also use.

So the focus should be content, not constantly trying to sell something. This should be the same for our newsletters. We should treat our readers with respect, and work on building a relationship with them.

Personally, I don’t like to be sold to all the time. However, if I have grown to respect someone through their writings, I will be more inclined to listen to their recommendations of other products and services.

So what do we write about?

Simply write what is on your mind. Tell your readers what you are currently working on. Share with them your current marketing methods, for example: Article Marketing, Blog Commenting, Forum Commenting, Link Swapping, etc.

Occasionally share with your reader a little more about yourself and your family, or perhaps some of your goals and dreams. Let them know who you are when you are not sitting behind a computer.

Some of us have some technical skills, so share ideas on creating a better blog, or the latest trick you have learnt using Word, Powerpoint, or Komposer.

First things first.

The first step it to focus on your content. Start writing articles, and if you have trouble doing this, find some good quality PLR articles and rewrite these. (PLR Wholesaler is a good cheap place to start)

Next, setup your auto-responder and add a opt-in link on your blog or website.

Now it is time to focus on traffic. Use some of your articles and post them on some of the article directories, comment on other blogs, get involved in forums associated with your niche. A great place to start is simply type into Google, (your niche) + forums. For example ‘dog training forums’.

Also remember to ping your blog each time you make a new post using Ping-O-Matic or Pingoat.

So what am I working on?

I have a couple of websites that I am focused on generating traffic to at the moment. Time Management Mindset and Easy Product Creation System. I am mainly using Article Marketing for this, but also helping outhers out in the forums.

I am also doing some Video marketing training with The Video Boss.

In addition to all of this, I am also planning a couple of new products. So I have pretty well got my plate full.

To Your Success,

Rob Willis

How to Create Your Own Product Faster than It Takes to Read this Article

February 16th, 2010

Have you always thought you needed to spend weeks or even months to create your own product?

Well, the good news is you can create a product much more quickly and easily. Maybe not as fast as reading this article, but you can sure do it in less than a week… or even a couple of days!

So you’ll have more time to promote and market your product which means more sales. After all, that’s where the money is.

Just imagine how many profitable products you can create and how much additional profits you can make when you know how to create your own products so fast!

So here are 3 techniques to create your own hot-selling products FAST…

1. Interview an Expert

You sure know or easily can find some experts in your field that your target market knows and respects. They are usually people who have written books or articles about your topic.

These people know the answers to many questions your prospects have in mind and can show them how to solve their problems.

That’s why interviewing an expert is a powerful technique to create products which are both highly profitable and easy to create.

You can interview the experts by email or using phone, turn it into an ebook easily and then sell it for big profits.

If you interview them using via phone, you can also record your phone conversation and turn it into an audio course. Since audio products offer a higher perceived value, you can sell it at a higher price. Just make sure you ask for their permission to record your conversation.

You can also get someone to write the transcription so you can sell it as an ebook separately, or just as a bonus with your audio course.

2. Compile Templates and Samples

Who says you have to write all your ebooks word by word yourself?

After all, people buy an ebook because it shows them how to solve their problem and get what they want. So as long as your ebook is helpful to your target market, all the rest doesn’t matters.

By compiling templates, samples, articles, and other helpful information into an ebook, not only you’ll provide your target market with valuable information they want but you’ll also create your product much more easily and quickly.

3. And Best of All…

There’s another powerful technique that helps you create high quality, hot-selling products in less a couple of weeks without writing a single word yourself.

It’s the secret many top Internet marketing experts use but have never admitted it to you.

It’s like their private secret to making a fortune on the Internet. And you’re not going to believe me when I say it’s not only the most profitable, but also the easiest of all other product creation techniques!

You can learn more about this powerful product creation secret plus more tips and tricks in the Easy Product Creation System.

To Your Success,

Rob Willis

A New Beginning

February 1st, 2010

Well it is now official!!

As of today, I start my new adventure as a full time Internet Marketer.

Of course as I step into this new venture, I have mixed emotions. Fear, Trepidation, Excitement, Relief. However, I am not going to let anything get in my way to making this work.

Now I understand, that in and of itself, Internet Marketing is also a job, however it is a job that you can do from anywhere, as long as you have a computer and an Internet connection.

Also, I understand that in the early days/months of Internet Marketing, there is a lot of work in putting down your foundations and creating products. However in the long run, not as the amount of effort required to make money in this arena, becomes less and less (if you do the right things, on a consistent basis).

There is however the need to treat this as a job in the early stages. Make sure that you put in the time to make it all work.

I know working from home can be very distracting, especially when your work involves the Internet. It is so easy to be sidetracked by email, Facebook, Twitter, and other web sites. All of these are important, but if they are not done in a controlled manner, you will find that they will simply stop you from doing any real work that will ultimately make you the money that we all want to be making.

This is why, the first product that I have created & am launching here today is the “Time Management Mindset“.

You see, as an Internet Marketer, we need to manage our time more effectively than those that have jobs. In a job, you have a boss that usually makes sure that you are getting your work done. But as an Internet Marketer, you only really have yourself. So at all times you must make sure that you are doing the most profitable task at any one time.

Sometimes, the most important task will be to spend 30 minutes on Twitter or Facebook. Other times you should be in the forums, asking questions and helping others. Or you might be answering emails, and responding to support requests. Or most importantly spending time your time with family & friends.

You see without a proper Time Management Plan, our priorities can get all screwed up. We start to spend Major Time on Minor Things, and of course, Minor Time on Major Things.

So if you are interested, I invite you to visit my latest site; The Time Management Mindset.

To Your Success,

Rob Willis
